What exactly does the JobStep ATS checker test—and what does it not test?
The basic check tests whether central information in your PDF—such as contact details, positions, employers, dates, education, and skills—is recognized and assigned correctly. A job description can then be used to assess content fit. It does not simulate one employer’s secret rules or a hiring decision.
Does JobStep show which text and sections an ATS actually extracts from my resume?
After upload, your resume is transferred into editable, structured sections. You can check which details were captured and how they were assigned. Missing or misplaced content is more useful evidence than a score alone.
Does JobStep only test technical readability or also fit for a specific role?
Both belong together but are assessed separately. First comes the stable foundation: are all important details read? Only with a specific job description can JobStep meaningfully assess which requirements and terms are already supported or still missing.
What does my ATS result mean: readability, resume quality, or job match?
These three things should not disappear into one number. Readability describes whether details can be extracted. Resume quality covers completeness, clarity, and impact for people. Job match only shows after a direct comparison how well your documented experience fits a role. Why do different ATS checkers give me different results?
Modern ATS usually read ordinary text-based resumes reliably. Online checkers nevertheless use their own rules and compress different criteria into a single score, so results can vary widely.
